Fiddler, tinkerer, maker. 80’s child. Below are a few of my interests.
I have an entire bookshelf dedicated to books on design theory, most of which I’ve read and some of which I fear I may not have the time to finish. I started learning HTML, CSS & JavaScript in college. Then I moved on to self-taught PHP, got into WordPress which is currently my preferred back-end platform for web-based projects (although I have used other platforms for different scenarios).
You may find some blog posts about my various experiments with home automation platforms. I’m keen on privacy so I prefer to use Home Assistant and Arduino devices to optimise various processes around the house. I own more Raspberry Pi devices than is sensible, which lead me into learning Python.
I enjoy designing parts to solve engineering problems. I use Autodesk Tinkercad to design parts and an Anet A8 FFF printer to print them. I’m hoping to start MSLA (UV resin) printing soon.
I hope to one day perform an EV conversion on an ICE 4×4. This project is going to be a slow-burner. In the meantime I grow veggies for my pet guinea pigs and generate solar power, I’m hoping to start a project to combine the two.
I own an Adana Eight-Five and lots of cases of lead type. I do enjoy typesetting the old-fashioned way but I’m also inclined to design & print using modern photopolymer plates. This I think is the perfect blend of modern & traditional printing techniques. I think if something is worth printing, it’s worth printing onto quality paper.
I’m a responsible metal detectorist and I’m fully insured by the NCMD (National Council for Metal Detecting) which means civil liability cover for up to £10,000,000. You may see some of my finds in my blog. I’m always on the lookout for new land to detect on so if you own any land near Fareham that you’re happy to grant permission on then please do get in touch!
You can normally find me streaming remixes of 1990’s computer games from ocremix.org. It’s amazing what composers managed to do with such limited audio hardware.
